Classical conditioning was discovered by ivan pavlov a russian physiologist who conducted a series of classic.

Stimulus discrimination classical conditioning. Discrimination in classical conditioning. Pavlov would sound a tone like ringing a bell and then give the dogs the meat powder. After the association is learned the previously neutral stimulus is sufficient to produce the behaviour.

A novel stimulus produces a response that is similar to the response produced by a conditioned stimulus. For example if a bell tone were the conditioned stimulus discrimination would involve being able to tell the difference between the bell sound and other similar sounds. In classical conditioning terms the organism demonstrates the conditioned response only to the conditioned stimulus.

Prior to conditioning the dogs did not salivate when they just heard the tone because the tone had no association for the dogs. The tone was the neutral stimulus ns which is a stimulus that does not naturally elicit a response. Classical conditioning is a type of learning that had a major influence on the school of thought in psychology known as behaviorism.

Discovered by russian physiologist ivan pavlov classical conditioning is a learning process that occurs through associations between an environmental stimulus and a naturally occurring stimulus. Pavlov s dogs discriminated between the basic tone that sounded before they were fed and other tones e g the doorbell because the other sounds did not predict the arrival of food. Classical conditioning is the process by which a naturally occurring stimulus is paired with a stimulus in the environment and as a result the environmental stimulus eventually elicits the same response as the natural stimulus.

Classical conditioning refers to learning that occurs when a neutral stimulus e g a tone becomes associated with a stimulus e g food that naturally produces a behaviour. In classical conditioning discrimination is the ability to differentiate between a conditioned stimulus and other stimuli that have not been paired with an unconditioned stimulus.
